Japan Travel Planner is a small independent site. It publishes free Japan travel guides and interactive planning tools, and it sells one printable planning workbook. This page describes what actually happens to data when you use it — not a generic template.

The short version

What loads on a page

Two third parties are contacted when you open a page here, and they see your IP address as a normal consequence of serving you the page:

That is the complete list. If you block either of them, every page and every tool still works.

The planning tools

The cost calculator, itinerary builder, cherry blossom planner, packing list generator and JR Pass calculator are plain JavaScript running on your own device. Nothing you type into them is transmitted, logged or saved — including by us. Close the tab and it is gone. That is also why none of them can remember your list for next time.

If you buy something, or claim the free planner

Checkout and file delivery are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as Merchant of Record. When you buy the $19 planner or claim the free mini planner, you give your email address — and for a paid order, your payment details — to Lemon Squeezy, not to this site. We never see or handle your card number.

What we can see afterwards is the order record Lemon Squeezy shows us: the email address used, what was bought, the amount, and the country for tax purposes. We use it to deliver the file and answer support questions. Lemon Squeezy processes this data under its own privacy policy and terms.

If you claimed the free mini planner, your email is held by Lemon Squeezy as a customer record. Ask us and we will have it deleted.

If you write to us

The contact form stores exactly what you type into it — your name, your email address, the topic you picked and your message — plus the time it arrived, the country your request came from, and your browser's user-agent string. It is kept so we can read it and reply, and for nothing else.

We do not add you to a mailing list, we do not pass it to anyone, and there is no page anywhere that displays these messages. Ask us to delete your message and we will. Submissions are removed automatically after two years in any case.

Because we publish no email address, the form is the way to reach us — but writing to us is always your choice, and nothing on this site requires it.

Search Console

The site is registered with Google Search Console, which reports in aggregate which search queries showed our pages and how often they were clicked. It identifies pages and queries, never people.

Children

This site is aimed at adults planning travel and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Your data, your call

Because we hold so little, most requests are simple: ask and we will delete the order record associated with your email address, or tell you exactly what it contains. Use the contact form and pick the privacy topic, or reply to your order email.

Changes

If what the site does changes — a new analytics tool, an email newsletter, anything that touches your data — this page is updated first, and the date at the top changes with it.
